If you are trying to get your pool warm this winter, an electric pool heater may be your best option. Go through our list to see if an electric pool heater is right for your pool.
In the winter, fall, and early spring, when the weather is cooler, a pool heater may be necessary depending on where you live. Before summer comes and heats up the water, or in the evenings when it gets cool, a heater can be your only way to enjoy your pool. There are two types of electric pool heaters: the heat pump or the electric heater.
With the electric pool heater that relies on a coil, it takes a little longer to heat the pool. First the heater warms the coil, which in turn heats the water. This is different from a heat pump which relies on the temperature of the air to affect the temperature of the pool water.
The heat pump is ideal for larger pools because it relies on the air to adjust the temperature. Once the air heats up, that transfers to heat the water. This makes it faster to heat the pool than the coil option, which is one of the reasons it has lower energy costs. It is also one of the reasons it is more popular.
Electric pool heaters work best in warmer climates where it doesn’t get below 40 degrees F. These heaters are most effective in smaller pools like spas or above ground pools of 5,000 gallons or less. For a larger pool or a pool in a colder climate, check out other types of pool heaters.
